Great movies about the stock market?

Main Post:

Having only seen The Wolf of Wall Street and The Big Short, I'm looking for more movies to scratch that finance itch I have.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated but I would prefer if the stock market was the main part of the movie and not a B plot.

Movie Trading Company

Main Post:

Pictures!

In my visit to the DFW, TX area I began to explore the chain of stores known as 'Movie Trading Company'. I was initially turned off because the chain has a website with a storefront...that typically means all the ‘deals’ could easily be scooped up by anyone at home online (defeating the purpose of the store), but it appeared to be MOSTLY for big ticket items...so I was hopeful.

My first location I visited...and was greeted by a discount sign of ‘Buy 10 get ($1 off, 1 free? I can’t remember)’ and thinking, “great! They probably have a lot of cheap things encouraging you to buy many.” Store was pretty cool: large, expansive selection, multiple mediums, etc. But I was here for GAMES. The first thing I noticed is most ‘older’ titles were either in cases (most all cartridges, and games with low stock IE 3DS/WiiU; this is separate from the High Value titles cases up front) or cheaply shrink-wrapped (which looks like saran-wrap). All Saran-shrinked games were easy enough to identify, but difficult to discern the actual condition...as well as impossible to determine the included manuals/inserts. This is clearly done as they have no room for discs in cabinets up front like GameStop and similar stores, but it still feels cheap.

Already off to a bad start. Then I noticed that for all recently released titles, this place uses the GameStop definition of ‘NEW’...as in “hey, we opened it but it’s NEVER been played!” but still charging full MSRP. This further angered me when they had some games WITHOUT THEIR ORIGINAL CASE marked as NEW for full MSRP. Again, all the cases up front were uses for collectibles, and there was no sign of cabinets used exclusively for discs and/or Sealed copies of games (if this was really a placeholder; full game cases would take up even more room mind you...)

Then the PRICES...

Wow, just WOW. Anyone that thinks DK Oldies is bad...well this is quite literally if they existed in a brick and mortar environment and justified a yet FURTHER price increase because of ‘store overhead’. Everything was 1.5x to 3x the average ebay selling price. And they have a very unintelligent pricing system that views the disc/cart as the same value a CIB copy. The idea of ‘Museum Store Pricing’ is very much in effect for some ‘grail’ items. The final nail in the coffin was seeing a NEW (GameStop definition) PS5 Disc console for Scalper pricing. Walked straight out. I will let some of the pictures speak for themselves...

I have since visited 4 other locations...desperate to give this place the benefit of the doubt as they are everywhere and have so many cool games...never once have I found something I wanted that was even matching the eBay pricing. I have not given them a dime and I hope they go out of business.

Trading Places in 2023

Main Post:

Just watched this film as I heard on a podcast that Trading Places and The Big Short are the best films about trading.

The film is from 1983 starring Dan Akroyd, Eddie Murphy and Jamie Lee Curtis, I also spotted a young Giancarlo Esposito as a small role.

It was refreshing to watch a classic and pretty wild to see some 80s tropes in there. I highly recommend you give it a watch if you haven't seen it.

Trading Places (1983)

Main Post:

It was the only movie I could think of off the top of my head that had NYE prominently, so I figured what the hell.

Won't cover the plot; if you don't know it by know I applaud your ability to avoid it after nearly (gulp) 40 years. But it's definitely peak Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd. In fact the whole cast is stellar. Don Ameche and Ralph Bellamy are perfect as a couple of super-rich old racist farts who get what's coming to them, and I really liked the subtlety of Denholm Elliot's butler character. He's clearly going along just because he's being forced to by his employer, but that little moment of hesitation when he's turning away Winthorpe after his jail time speaks volumes. He hates this and feels terrible.

Overall I'd say it holds up well. The humor is definitely early-80s, so there are a few jokes of the homophobic variety that are pretty cringe today. And it had me go down a rabbit hole about exactly what was going on at the end in the stock market (link below) so it all finally makes sense. Blows my mind that, in 1983, none of that trading was illegal.

Overall, still a fun movie with some great comedic performances.

Top Comment: Jamie Lee Curtis was great in this as well. Really nails the smart, no-nonsense/compassionate hooker role. Even though we all know that the Swedish don't wear lederhosen...

[US][Trading] FREE Physical 4K UHD movies for your unused digital codes. FREE shipping.

Main Post:

I have the following titles available for trade. I am ONLY interested in digital codes. I purchased ALL of these movies brand new. I opened them only to remove the digital codes and closed them. Discs have never even been removed from their cases, let alone watched.

https://imgur.com/a/DZIhgOW

I'm well versed in digital codes. I would be happy to help walk anyone through testing their codes before making a trade, so that we can both feel comfortable with the transaction. Hundreds and hundreds of Warner Brothers / HBO digital titles were expired in February / March of 2023, just something to keep in mind. I can also take more pictures or videos (or anything else required for proof / quality). I will ship for free, so these are "costless" transactions for any traders.

Looking for about 5 x 4K digital codes per 1 physical 4K movie (will also accept HD [Blu-ray] and SD [DVD] codes; we can discuss).

Trading Up Christmas

So I've just started watching this one and I already feel like a Grinch. It's only 2 mins in and I'm annoyed at the mother for telling her child that hot chocolate counts as dessert for the child but not her (the mom).
